We’re in a parave joint in Pikesville experiencing something that is not from Baltimore but fits so well. It’s Yossef’s Laffa-Milia, a cool spot that serves authentic kosher Israeli street food.
Our journey started with signature soups. The matzo ball soup with vegetables and the Yemenite white bean soup were warm, fresh, and delicious. We then moved on to Sambusak, a Middle Eastern empanada, with a crispy, aromatic filling. It dances between Indian and Iraqi flavors, making it a unique find.
Yossef’s Laffa-Milia is a falafel spot and their specialty falafel didn’t disappoint. With a distinct grind, the falafel offers a crunchy exterior and a vibrant green interior—an exemplary model for a kosher spot in Baltimore. Another dish we savored was an incredibly creamy hummus topped with beans, pickles, and an overnight egg.
The kibbeh is another standout, offering a unique twist by using bulgar grain for the exterior, creating a crispy bite that encases a delicious mushroom filling.
A Thursday night special here is the fish shawarma. Despite being fish-based, it captures the essence of traditional shawarma with its fantastic texture and remarkable flavors wrapped in a freshly made laffa.
Overall, Yossef’s Laffa-Milia provides a delicious and authentic street food experience. This kosher, vegetarian, and vegan-friendly menu seamlessly fits into Baltimore’s community and is under the supervision of Star-K.
