Judd: Hey guys! What’s up? So you know I don’t really talk a lot on all these videos and sometimes I have some great ideas on where we should be doing shoots. Some things that get overlooked, maybe. I said, we gotta check out UrbanPops. It’s amazing. My wife kind of got me into it. WE used to always have these pre-shabbos buckets of treats of all the great pops. They have minis and full size. Premiums. All kinds of cool stuff. And we’re gonna check it out today. We’re here in Flatbush.
CW: So sometimes Judd gives us a suggestion and we just say: Judd, go back to your room. And sometimes he make it such a point that we have to go to a joint and we gotta try it out. So this is the UrbanPop joint. They make these great, paleta-style type… Are they pareve, dairy? What are they?
Sophie: They’re always dairy-free.
CW: This is Sophie. Sophie is the owner of UrbanPops. This is a knafeh ice pop.
Sophie: That’s right. So this pop is actually one of our top flavors, I think, of all time. It’s an orange blossom gelato with pistachios and almonds inside. And then we dip it in what’s called a shura syrup, which is the orange blossom syrup and we roll it in toasted shredded dough.
CW: Kadaif.
Sophie: There is nothing better in life.
CW: I’m gonna take a bite ’cause we love knafeh. We cooked it on camera before.
Sophie: Go ahead.
CW: The only way to describe what we just ate is Knafeh. It’s not anything else. That’s legit knafeh, if your inside, if your cheese, right, was frozen. What it also is, is a great summertime, outdoors, at the beach kinda knafeh. That’s just solid.
Sophie: This is another one of our newer flavors. This is Twix.
CW: Twix!
Sophie: So it is a caramel –
CW: Betwix!
Sophie: It is a caramel gelato with a shortbread cookie. Coated in a thick caramel coating inside. Then we dip it in chocolate and roll it in a toasted shortbread cookie dough.
CW: It’s a caramel gelato but the mouth feel is caramel. It’s a chewy ice cream caramel.
Sophie: This is my favorite – one of my favorite. It’s Strawberry Shortcake. It’s a strawberry gelato with a homemade strawberry jam, homemade vanilla shortcake, and then we toast the shortcake and roll it on the outside.
CW: She keeps messing with textures here.
Judd: Yeah.
CW: A lot of good frozen core but the textures are nuts because what you’re really doing is biting into a piece of cake first. There’s layer of cake. It’s like an invisible layer of cake. It’s just the mouth feel when you bite into it. It’s a piece of cake and then the frozen cream.
Sophie: Next, Peanut Butter Oreo. So we make our own peanut butter gelato and we crush Oreos and stuff it inside.
CW: That’s exactly what she said it is, man. It tastes like the best kind of peanut butter cup. But like, cold is a flavor, is what we’re tasting.
The last one is very special to us.
Sophie: Limonana.
CW: Yeah. If you watch us you know that the unofficial drink of Tripping Kosher is a Limonana. Just that alone would remind me of like the best kind of palate cleanser. It’s incredibly refreshing and very vibrant.
Judd through a hissy fit and pestered us to come to this place. Within good reason. It’s a great place. We had a good time.
Judd: Very good!
CW: Judd, this doesn’t mean that we’re gonna listen to you every time, but sometimes…
UrbanPops in the JCC.
Sophie: SCC.
CW: SCC. Right, right, the real Jews. That’s right, the real JCC of Flatbush.
